The Solevo Group, a leading specialty chemical distribution platform and advocate for sustainable farming practices in Africa, is taking a prominent role in the transformation of the agricultural landscape on the continent. As the world faces unprecedented challenges, Solevo recognizes that a sustainable future for Africa hinges on innovative approaches to agriculture that can address both food security and global food economy goals.

“The rich agrarian potential of this continent is on the brink of a transformative era, capable not only of nourishing its burgeoning population but also contributing significantly to the global food economy,” affirms Florian Huguenin, Business Director for Central Africa at the Solevo Group.

The path towards sustainable agriculture in Africa is not a solitary endeavor but a collective initiative that involves a diverse array of stakeholders. This includes policy makers, local farming communities, financing organizations, international agricultural bodies, and notably, the agro-inputs industry. Agro-inputs companies, like Solevo, stand at the forefront, equipped to drive the adoption of innovative solutions and technologies. This accelerates the transition towards environmentally responsible, economically viable, and socially equitable farming practices.

Harnessing Technology for Progress:

At Solevo, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the agricultural landscape in Africa by harnessing the power of technology and data-driven solutions. Our mission is to enhance agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ yields, and make quality agricultural inputs more accessible and affordable. We firmly believe that the key to achieving sustainable agricultural growth in Africa lies in innovative digital solutions that bridge the gaps in the agriculture sector. Through apps like My Solevo and other emerging technologies, Solevo is committed to playing a leadership role.

Franck Chabert, Business Line Director Agro at Solevo Group, explains: “While many companies in the phytosanitary product market are distanced from their end consumers, our digital approach is designed to reach a broader farming audience. Our app not only facilitates access to quality products but also disseminates vital technical information and safety guidelines, even to the most remote farmers.”

Investing in Innovation and Development:

Solevo’s commitment to innovation and the development of sustainable agro-inputs plays a pivotal role in evolving conventional farming practices into a more environmentally responsible and sustainable framework. In a proactive move, Solevo has taken steps to eliminate the most hazardous chemicals from its product portfolio, even when they are permitted by governments. Furthermore, Solevo is actively engaged in the development of novel organic chemicals with reduced ecological footprints, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote environmental sustainability and responsible consumption and production.

A Commitment to Sustainable Development:

Solevo is deeply committed to working towards the achievement of the SDGs. A recipient of the EcoVadis Gold certification in 2023 and a participant in the United Nations Global Compact, Solevo has a long-standing history of actively supporting the SDGs. These goals provide a blueprint for a more sustainable and prosperous future for all, emphasizing the importance of responsible consumption, environmental preservation, and food security.

Adjamois Koua, Group ESG Manager at Solevo explains: “As part of our Stewardship program, we have launched a trial in the Ivory Coast to collect Crop Protection Empty Packaging. The aim is to create greater awareness of each level of packaging disposal; at collection of the packaging, at transportation to authorized sites and at the destruction phase. Through this project, we hope to reduce incidents related to the misuse and pollution caused by plastic. We also have implemented an extensive reforestation program with a bold initiative that started with the ‘1 employee, 1 tree’ project. Quickly, this initiative has evolved to ‘1 employee, 5, 10 trees.’ Our ambition for the coming year is to achieve ‘1 employee, 1000 trees’ for all SOLEVO employees. This is our contribution to the fight against drought and reforestation in all the countries where we are present. By 2026, we aim to plant 500,000 trees.”

Building Strong Partnerships:

Solevo recognizes the significance of forging robust partnerships with local governments, educational entities, and non-governmental organizations. Such partnerships enable agro-inputs companies to significantly contribute to constructing an ecosystem that not only advocates for sustainable agriculture but also fortifies local communities. This collaborative approach expedites the transfer of knowledge and resources vital for enduring sustainability and self-sufficiency of Africa’s agricultural sector.

A Collective Journey:

The journey towards realizing sustainable agriculture in Africa is extensive, requiring steadfast commitment, substantial resource allocation, and a harmonized vision among all stakeholders. Solevo’s leadership firmly believes in the transformative potential of unified action.

Franck Chabert, Business Line Director Agro at Solevo Group explains, “I am deeply convinced of the power of collective action. With coordinated efforts and relentless determination, we are progressing towards a new era of sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security, economic growth, and environmental conservation.”
