For Africa’s smallholder farmers, the right advice at the right moment can define an entire season. Solevo Farm is making sure that advice is always within reach.
Geneva, Switzerland
Farming has always demanded expertise, resilience, and sharp instinct. But for millions of smallholder farmers across Africa, access to timely, accurate agronomic advice has historically been the exception, not the rule. A disease misdiagnosed, a product misapplied, a loan missed — these are not just inconveniences. They are the difference between a good season and a devastating one. And a good season is not just about yield. It is about income for a family, food on the table, and the steady building of a more resilient future.
Solevo Farm was built with that reality at its core.
A Farming Companion, Built for the Field
Solevo Farm is a mobile app designed to serve as an all-in-one companion for the smallholder farmer. It currently operates in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, with Senegal launching in April 2025, and it brings together five core services under one roof: a loyalty and rewards program that recognizes farmers every time they shop; AI-powered disease and pest detection with instant treatment recommendations; real-time visibility into which local retailers stock the recommended product — and soon, at what price; lending support tools to help farmers track and manage loans; and direct access to agronomic expertise through an in-app Ask an Expert feature.
Where Expertise Meets Innovation
Solevo Farm’s strength lies in bringing together services that farmers need most — and making each one work harder than any generic tool can, with guidance that is specific, actionable, and locally grounded.
Any farmer with a smartphone can photograph a struggling crop and run it through a generic search or AI tool. What they get back is a name. What they cannot get elsewhere is what Solevo delivers next: a precise product recommendation, trained and validated by Solevo’s own agronomists, linked in real time to local stock availability.
Hugo Winn, Head of Digital at Solevo, puts it simply: “Disease detection uses AI trained by our agronomists, so we can ensure the right advice and product recommendation every time — with over 92% accuracy. Any farmer can use Google or ChatGPT to recognise diseases, but what is unique about our tool is how it is linked to a specific product recommendation, and we can tell you which retailers and distributors have it in stock, and soon at what price.”
The result: Farmers spend less money on the wrong products. They act faster, with confidence. And with better-targeted interventions, yields improve. For a smallholder farmer operating on tight margins, that is not a small thing. It is the kind of support that compounds — season after season, farm after farm.
Growing Together, Across the Whole Value Chain
Solevo Farm is the third piece of a digital ecosystem built around the way African agriculture actually works. Distributors sell to agro-retailers; agro-retailers sell to farmers. At every level of that chain, a Solevo application is now at work — helping each player buy, sell, and access the benefits and advice they need to grow. My Solevo gives distributors a 360-degree business management tool — remote credit management, invoice tracking, and sales support all in one place. Solevo Retail helps thousands of independent agro-retailers across Africa run stronger businesses, with better access to inventory and high-quality products. And Solevo Farm brings that entire chain to its most important endpoint: the farmer in the field. Together, the three Solevo Digital Tools connect with more than 1,000 farmers daily and have tracked more than €670 million in transactions since November 2023. The loop is closed – and everyone in it is better positioned to grow.
Over a century ago, Solevo’s story began with farmers — and the digital ecosystem carries that legacy forward. The mission has remained the same: to develop quality products, services and solutions that empower African farmers to build self-sufficient, resilient businesses. These tools are simply the next chapter in that story — built on the belief that when agriculture works, everyone benefits.
